University Engagement

University Engagement

Aggie Square is important as a place for students and faculty to engage in opportunities in the city of Sacramento and beyond. Our anchor tenants (listed below) are focused on community engagement, advancing research and teaching. Learn more about their plans for Aggie Square below.

Continuing and Professional Education

Continuing and Professional Education is building a comprehensive network of partners and programs by bringing together academic innovators and industry professionals to create collaborative opportunities for career advancement.

Aggie Square will be the hub for public programs and engagement with local employers to address their customized needs. By locating at Aggie Square, it allows CPE to bring programs closer to the communities they serve.

Public Scholarship and Engagement

Public Scholarship and Engagement is fostering a culture at UC Davis that increases the university’s impact through mutually beneficial relationships that have local, regional, statewide and global reach.

PSE will provide a university-wide coordinating and convening function for UC Davis’ colleges, schools, centers, and institutes, as well as be an entry point for individual faculty, staff, and students looking for engaged scholarship and learning resources and support. Public Scholarship and Engagement acts as a conduit for community partners and non-university groups that are seeking mutually beneficial research, teaching and technical assistance.

Quarter at Aggie Square

Quarter at Aggie Square is an academic program for undergraduates housed at Aggie Square. Undergraduate programming started Fall 2020, even before Aggie Square opens the doors to new buildings.

Students will study in Sacramento with a cohort of about 25 others in addition to dedicated faculty. Themes, to date, for these experiences include: Advancing Healthcare EquityMultilingual Education for CaliforniaBiomedical Engineering at the Health Campus, and Transformative Justice Studies in Sacramento.

School of Medicine

UC Davis School of Medicine is part of a nationally recognized health system that excels at translating scientific discoveries and new technology into improved patient care and community-wide health. Faculty in the School of Medicine specialize in a wide range of basic and applied research including those related to cancer biology, vascular biology, genetic diseases and functional genomics, health services, infectious diseases, neuroscience, nutrition, telemedicine, and vision science.

Coming Attractions

In discussions with faculty from colleges and schools across both UC Davis campuses, the Aggie Square team is discovering researchers and institute directors who are excited at the prospect of collocating with each other as well as with industry and community partners. Collaborative relationships are just the beginning of what our academic partners bring.

The Graduate School of Management can help prepare future entrepreneurs and leaders of local business. The School of Education brings an emerging relationship with the Alice Waters Institute for Edible Education at UC Davis that is spurring a conversation about food and health involving faculty from four UC Davis colleges and schools. The School of Medicine, the College of Engineering, and others showcase our university's international prominence in fields that include healthcare imaging, neuroscience, and much more.

The impact of Aggie Square will not be restricted to Aggie Square. Far from it: as we work with prospective academic partners, benefits of the translational research, policy advocacy, and community engagement possibilities coming into view seem likely to accrue across both the urban Sacramento health campus and our college-town campus in Davis.
