October 2024 Youth Listening Session Recap
Students turned out in big numbers for the Aggie Square Youth Listening session at Hiram Johnson High School on Wednesday, October 30. Expertly organized by the Sacramento Youth Commission’s Aggie Square Focus Area, the 95 student attendees learned about Aggie Square, then dove into conversations about the kinds of programs that they would most like to see when the buildings open in 2025. Participating students received community service hours for attending. Ideas discussed at this listening session included mentorship, career exploration, summer jobs and internships, inclusive and multi-cultural events, welcoming space and good food. Commissioners will take this valuable feedback, integrate it with the two prior listening session results and develop recommendations about next steps working with the City of Sacramento, Wexford and UC Davis. Commissioners will attend the November 20 Aggie Square Community Engagement Meeting to discuss their work on the Listening Session and next steps.
