FAQ’s About Aggie Square’s Design and Construction Process

In a recent discussion with Greg Partch, associate director for UC Davis' Design and Construction Management, he shared some of the frequently asked questions — and answers — he gets about the Aggie Square project.

While the Aggie Square website has many detailed answers, here is some fundamental information about the overall design, construction and management of the project.

New Look, Strong Message

In the earliest days of Aggie Square, a logo or wordmark was necessary to help give the new project an identity.

While the initial logo, a “lettermark” consisting of a UC Davis-gold box with an off-centered UC Davis-blue letter A, was a distinct look for Aggie Square, more could certainly be said about the innovation hub. An A with a square certainly did not require much decoding, but it didn’t put forth much of a message either.

As Aggie Square moves from the planning stage into implementing those plans, construction jobs are moving from ideas to realities, as well.

In a recent conversation with Kevin Ferreira, executive director of the Sacramento-Sierra Building and Construction Trades Council, or SSBCTC, he shared the progress already made toward the goals of training and hiring local workers for building Aggie Square.

Regents Approve Next Steps for Aggie Square Housing

The UC Board of Regents’ Finance and Capital Strategies Committee on Wednesday, May 12, approved the business terms related to Aggie Square’s mixed-use residential building . Additionally, the committee considered and approved both the California Environmental Quality Act terms and design for housing. The full Board of Regents approved the items on Thursday, May 13.

Aggie Square’s Community Benefits Laid Out

The Community Benefits Partnership Agreement (CBPA) is created to ensure the Aggie Square innovation district on the UC Davis Sacramento campus not only boosts the economy of the region but also provides meaningful access to jobs, affordable housing and other benefits for residents of the surrounding neighborhoods.
