Every quarter, UC Davis Aggie Square hosts community engagement meetings on a variety of topics including workforce development, youth opportunities, benefits for local residents, businesses and more. We strive to make the events as informative and engaging as possible. If you could not attend, we hope this recap provides a general overview of all that took place.

The February 29, 2024 Aggie Square Community Engagement meeting was held at the Oak Park Community Center and was hosted by UC Davis, the City of Sacramento, and Wexford Science + Technology. The agenda included a general update on Aggie Square, a look at Wexford’s philosophy related to public art and an overview of the upcoming opportunity for local artists to provide original murals for Aggie Square interior spaces.

If you were unable to attend,  please download the presentation complete with links or feel free to reach out via the presenters’ contact information at the end of the slides.

Public Art Process

  • In Phase I of the public art selection process, Wexford will fund two interior murals at Aggie Square, one in the Lifelong Learning building and another in the Life Sciences, Technology, and Engineering East building.
  • The City of Sacramento Office of Arts + Culture will lead the outreach and selection process.
  • Artists who live in or have a connection to Sacramento or Yolo Counties are encouraged to apply, especially those from the Aggie Square priority/neighborhood zip codes and the communities of interest zip codes.
  • Request for Qualifications (RFQ) will open in mid-March. From that pool of applicants, two finalists for each mural will be invited to the final stage.
  • Request for Proposals (RFP) will fund each of the finalists $500 to prepare concepts for final review by the selection committee.
  • In Phase II of the public art selection process, UC Davis will fund two additional interior murals in a process modeled after Phase I. Phase II is expected to open RFQ’s in May.
  • Sign up on an interest list to be notified about Phase I or Phase II RFQ’s,

The next Aggie Square community engagement meetings is scheduled for:

May 30, 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. | Location TBD

Additional Community Engagement meetings are planned for August and November 2024.
