Neighborhood Transportation Connections and Street Enhancements
UC Davis, the City of Sacramento and Wexford Development agree to improve transportation, connectivity, and reduce traffic in the Aggie Square neighborhood including measures like increasing zero-emission or hybrid vehicles, reducing single-occupancy vehicle commutes, and funding intersection improvements.
A portion of the Community Benefits Partnership Agreement focuses on connecting Aggie Square with nearby business districts, particularly small, minority-owned, and veteran-owned businesses. The goal is to positively impact and help grow businesses within Aggie Square's vicinity by encouraging emerging companies to locate on Stockton Boulevard or adjacent corridors, supporting local businesses through procurement, featuring local vendors at Aggie Square events, aligning efforts with nearby business districts and funding start-up development.
Aggie Square and the City of Sacramento are excited to keep the community engaged! As part of this commitment we will host regular public meetings until the first building is done, and then annually for at least tens years after construction. The goal is to keep everyone updated on Aggie Square's progress and hear what the community thinks. In addition, we commit to ensuring information about Aggie Square is available online and sharing updates with community partners as the construction goes on.
When complete, Aggie Square will be a place where our community can access space and resources for the purpose of driving innovation and entrepreneurship throughout the region. Wexford Development will offer a minimum of 500 sessions or workshops annually via their "Innovation Convener" programs which cover topics including civic engagement, entrepreneurial education, youth mentorship, and more. In addition they will allocate co-working space for startups led by under-represented entrepreneurs.
To further strengthen UC Davis' commitment to pathway and pipeline programs targeting elementary, middle, and high school students, the parties involved in the Aggie Square Innovation District will focus on maximizing opportunities for underserved, low-income students in education and careers through partnerships with school districts and community-based organizations. The parties will develop metrics to assess current opportunities, and share program usage annually.
Thanks to the partnership supporting the Community Benefits Partnership Agreement, Aggie Square will focus on inclusive economic development, job opportunities and training programs for the Sacramento region including a commitment to offer a percentage of available jobs to local residents and community members that will increase over time. Strategies include collaborating with community-based organizations to create a One Stop Hiring Portal and hosting job talks.
