On May 30, 2024, the Aggie Square Community Engagement meeting was held at UC Davis Betty Irene Moore Hall (School of Nursing), and was hosted by UC Davis, the City of Sacramento, and Wexford Science + Technology. The agenda included a general update on Aggie Square, information on job, workforce development and career pathways, and an open house session with organizations.
The February 29, 2024 Aggie Square Community Engagement meeting was held at the Oak Park Community Center and was hosted by UC Davis, the City of Sacramento, and Wexford Science + Technology. The agenda included a general update on Aggie Square, a look at Wexford’s philosophy related to public art and an overview of the upcoming opportunity for local artists to provide original murals for Aggie Square interior spaces.
Every quarter, UC Davis Aggie Square hosts community engagement meetings on a variety of topics including workforce development, youth opportunities, benefits for local residents, businesses and more. This is a recap of the November meeting.
Our August 17 meeting took place at the Aggie Square Launch Space on Stockton Blvd. There, 50 attendees received an update on the project and afterwards attendees were invited to engage with representatives from the university's human resources; local employment, apprenticeship and training organizations; the project's contractor, Whiting-Turner, and more.
As Aggie Square moves from its planning to action phase, a series of webinars has been scheduled on subjects that matter to the community.
On Wednesday, Oct. 13, the second in the series — "Workforce Development Strategy and UC Small Business First Program" — was hosted by Aggie Square partners UC Davis, the city of Sacramento and Wexford Science & Technology.
The UC Board of Regents’ Finance and Capital Strategies Committee on Wednesday, May 12, approved the business terms related to Aggie Square’s mixed-use residential building and the Alice Waters Institute project. Additionally, the committee considered and approved both the California Environmental Quality Act terms and designs for both housing and the Alice Waters Institute. The full Board of Regents approved the items on Thursday, May 13.

I watched the Community Forum and subsequent press conference on the Aggie Square Community Benefits Partnership Agreement hoping that my faculty and staff colleagues were as excited about this announcement as I am. Then I went on a hike with one of those colleagues and we talked about why this might not have gotten the attention I’d hoped for.
