We are excited to share how the general contractor for Aggie Square, Whiting-Turner, is actively engaging with the local community on a variety community service projects.
Every quarter, UC Davis Aggie Square hosts community engagement meetings on a variety of topics including workforce development, youth opportunities, benefits for local residents, businesses and more. This is a recap of the November meeting.
This month, the Association of University Research Parks (AURP) honored individuals with deep connections to Aggie Square with awards of excellence at their recent international conference.
Students interested in a career in commercial construction can intern for Whiting-Turner's Sacramento-area locations by contacting their local office where they'll be connected with a recruiting coordinator or group manager.
Our August 17 meeting took place at the Aggie Square Launch Space on Stockton Blvd. There, 50 attendees received an update on the project and afterwards attendees were invited to engage with representatives from the university's human resources; local employment, apprenticeship and training organizations; the project's contractor, Whiting-Turner, and more.
Aggie Square is being called the biggest economic development investment in Sacramento in a generation and aspires to transform the university and the capital region.
Sumiko Hong joined Government and Community Relations on June 1, as the Aggie Square Community Engagement Manager.
In this role, Hong will be responsible for building strategic partnerships with community organizations and supporting programs on behalf of UC Davis Aggie Square planning and development efforts. She will serve as a liaison to the communities surrounding the Sacramento Campus, and is charged with coordinating implementation of deliverables in the Community Benefits Partnership Agreement.
In May, current and future leaders with inquisitive minds between the ages of 14-24 were invited to join a conversation about what Aggie Square might become. This meeting of about 40 students was a result of the Community Benefits Partnership Agreement, where youth opportunities are among the goals.
